“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 NKJV
I once heard a pastor say that he could tell where your heart was by looking at your checkbook to see what you spent your money on. I think the same would hold true if we peeked inside what the old folks used to call your datebook. Our fancy new term for it is personal organizer. What do you spend most of your time doing? Who do you see regularly? Lots of folks have “standing” appointments for things like getting their hair and nails done – and not just women. Maybe it’s a weekly/bi-weekly ladies’ brunch or card night with the fellas. Somewhere in your datebook/organizer – whether its written or just in your head – you have certain “dates” that you have planned for the things you want to do.
Question for you – have you given God the same amount of your time as you’ve given the brunches and card nights? Let’s say you do those things once a week. With commute and time at the event, you will likely spend 4 to 5 hours there. Are you giving God the same amount of your time per week? Let’s take the low end of 4 hours a week. Divided by 7 that is roughly 34 minutes a day. Divided by 14 for a bi-weekly event it is about 17 minutes a day. If someone looked at your datebook, would they see God scheduled for at least 17 minutes of your time each day?
My challenge for you this week is to review your datebook and determine where your treasure is. Is it laid up on earth or in heaven?
