Blind Date

Have you ever been set up on a blind date that you didn’t want to go on? Maybe it was your mom’s friend’s son or the friend of your friend’s wife. Whoever it was, you were only going out with them so the person whose idea it was would stop bothering you. In this day and age it was likely not even a “date”. More like a quick coffee meet and greet. Something with little effort or commitment. Something you can check off your list and keep going with the rest of your day. For some of us, we have been giving the same energy to our time alone with God. Someone told us we should do it so we give it minimal effort and move on to our next task.

Perhaps you have been treating time with God as a dating app and swiping left. Maybe you’ve shown little interest in getting to know Him due to church hurt or things you’ve seen or heard from other people. God is waiting on you to swipe right and show interest in Him. He is interested in you. Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) says “For I know the thoughts I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God is thinking good thinks about you!

Many of us have been having a quick coffee or swiping left with God when what He wants is to date us. He wants to make a reservation and sit down at the table with us so we can get to know Him on a more intimate level. He already knows you that way. Psalm 139 reminds us that He searched us and knows us. That He knit us together in our mother’s womb. He is waiting on us to make the decision to get to know Him on that level. Make the decision today to swipe right and have an intentional date with the Divine.
