Movie Trailers

My husband and my son each have two different perspectives on movie trailers. My husband does not like them and tries to avoid them at all costs. He won’t even read the summary of a movie on the television guide. He feels they reveal too much of the movie’s plot and show all the best parts of the movie leaving nothing to surprise you as the movie unfolds. My son is just the opposite. He loves to watch movie trailers. In fact, he stalks YouTube to make sure he sees the trailers for movies of interest as soon as they drop. He watches them repeatedly, paying attention to every detail that may expose any clues to plot twists or character shifts.

If you could watch a movie trailer of your life, would you? Do you want to see a highlight reel of what’s to come, or would you prefer to be surprised in the moment? If you don’t spend time with God, you will be in for an edge of your seat adventure. When a situation comes out of left field, you will not only be surprised, but possibly ill-equipped to handle it. You can be sure to expect the unexpected.

However, if you choose to spend time in daily communication with the One who wrote the story of your life, when life throws you a curve ball you will be better equipped to handle it and readjust as necessary. It may shake you for a moment, but it will not destroy you. The situation was likely foreshadowed in your conversations with God if you paid attention to the details.

God knows the end from the beginning and wants to give you insight into the script of your life. Psalm 139:16-17 says “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” Not only did God write every day of your life, but He put thought into them as He wrote them. And not just any thoughts…precious ones and lots of them! God wants to let you in on those thoughts, so take a moment each day to have a date with the Divine.
